Haji Banda Hasan’s journey is nothing less than an inspirational one. He got very famous in Khan Market for his kebabs and roomali rolls. People started associating Khan Market with his name and that’s how he got the name Uncle.

Through his food, he has earned respect and love from people. People lovingly call him Uncle, a name that has now become synonymous with delicious kebabs and tikkas.

His journey has been covered by print media, TV and social media as well. He has more than 100,000 followers on Facebook. He has won several awards as well.

He taught his recipe to his sons – Mohammad Saleem & Mohammad Javed who are now taking forward his legacy.

Saharanpur

1948

Haji Banda Hasan was born in Saharanpur (Uttar Pradesh) in 1948. His journey was full of struggle and challenges. He faced unenviable circumstances in Saharanpur. His inspiring journey started when he left Saharanpur in 1960.

Jama Masjid

1960

In 1960, Banda Hasan moved to Delhi. He came to Jama Masjid in his teenage years where he met Haji Mohammad Yusuf. Haji Banda Hasan learned to make kebabs, tikkas and Mughlai dishes from his Ustad.

Khan Market

1970s

In early 1970s, Haji Banda Hasan put a stall in a fair at Pragati Maidan. There he met Mr. Khanna who owned Alfina restaurant. Mr. Khanna loved his food and offered him to put a stall in Khan Market. He took a leap of faith and set up a small stall selling mutton seekh kebab and chicken tikka.
